Smart Schools Bond Act Proposal

In 2014, New York voters approved the Smart Schools Bond Act. The $2 billion bond act is intended to provide school districts across the state with funding for new educational technology and infrastructure improvements to enhance learning opportunities for students.

On September 14, the ³¬¼¶µõÖÓÄÌ held a public hearing regarding the use of the Smart Schools Bond Act funds allocated to the district. The plan is designed to strengthen safety and security measures across the district.

The district has proposed using $1,002,194.50 of the allocated funds (Liverpool’s share is $5,345,676) to upgrade door security systems across LCSD facilities.

Community members now have the opportunity to share their thoughts on the proposal during a 30-day public comment period. Once the comment period closes, the district anticipates bringing the Smart Bond Investment Plan before the Board of Education for final adoption on October 19, 2026.

Following Board adoption, the plan will be submitted to the New York State Education Department for authorization. The state review and final implementation approval process is expected to take approximately six to 12 months.

The Smart Schools security investment plan represents the district’s continued commitment to providing safe, secure learning environments for students and staff. Through careful planning, stakeholder input and the required public review process, LCSD will continue evaluating and implementing security improvements that support the district’s schools and community.
